What is Ulta’s policy on cruelty-free beauty products?
Ulta carries SO many cruelty-free brands. It’s amazing to see the selection both in stores and online. In fact, Ulta’s own house line is cruelty-free too! It’s amazing to see a brand actually take the steps to ensure their own brand is free of animal testing.
Cruelty-free beauty products are those that have not been tested on animals at any stage of production. This means that the product itself, as well as its individual ingredients and formulas, have not been tested on animals.
Does Ulta carry any vegan beauty products?
Yes! In fact, every cruelty-free brand sold at Ulta makes at least a couple of vegan products. You’ll find filters for “vegan” on product type and brand pages too.
Ulta does have a page dedicated to vegan beauty products. Unfortunately, it’s not fully accurate. Non-vegan products have been found there and some brands that test on animals appear there too. I suggest using the filters to find vegan beauty products at Ulta over their Vegan Beauty page.
How can I find cruelty-free and vegan options at Ulta?
To find cruelty-free options at Ulta, use the list below! I’ve put in hours curating this list to make your shopping as easy as possible. Let me do the work for you so that you can find the cruelty-free brands to pick from. As mentioned above, Ulta has a vegan filter on brand and product pages. It’s super helpful!
Are there any Ulta-exclusive cruelty-free brands that you recommend?
A couple of cruelty-free brands exclusively at Ulta that I absolutely love are About Face and Half Magic Beauty. Both of these brands make super interesting and unique products. They are also both vegan-friendly as well.
How can I support Ulta’s commitment to cruelty-free and vegan beauty products?
In these situations, using your voice as a consumer is so important. It can truly make a difference. Let Ulta know that you appreciate that they carry so many cruelty-free brands by sending their customer service team an email or DMing them on Instagram.

Physician’s Formula isn’t on the list. I read a while back that their cruelty-free status has changed. Are they still cruelty-free or not.
They aren’t. They were removed from the Logical Harmony Cruelty-Free Brand List a while ago, and are now on the Brands to Avoid list.
LOVE the info…Thank you…????????. Curious if Makeup Revolution is cruelty free? Was it already on the list and I missed it? Thanks much ??
I haven’t been able to confirm that they are cruelty-free, no.
Hi Nina! I just wanted to let you know they have now been added as a Logical Harmony Approved cruelty-free brand!
thanks for the updated list!
I was wondering what the status is with morphe. I saw something on another site that seemed conflicting and am perplexed.
Hi Stacey, I do not consider Morphe to be cruelty-free.
Hi,
I am supriesed, as faar i know The Body Shop not testing on Animals, but belongs to L’oreal group, which testing on Animals. Why The Body Shop is on the list cruelty -free products?
Hi Paulina!
They haven’t been owned by L’Oreal for a couple of years now.
BH Cosmetics is cruelty free. I don’t see them on either list.
I’ve been unable to get a clear response from them about their animal testing practices.
In shopping at Ulta, I noticed that the have Butter London signage saying they are cruelty free, but the use ‘carmine’ in their eye shadow clutch pallet. They may not test on animals, but carmine is a dye made up of crushed beetle shells.
That’s correct – they are cruelty-free but not a vegan brand.
what about it cosmetics? I know they are owned by L’Oreal now, but they dont test on animals as far as I know.
I haven’t been able to confirm that they are cruelty-free unfortunately.
What About It Cosmetics? They are cruelty free as well
I haven’t been able to confirm that they are cruelty-free unfortunately.
Isn’t Marc jacobs on one of your lists as now cruelty free..? If so, the brand is available at Ulta.
Marc Jacobs Beauty is cruelty-free, but the fragrance line is a separate company (even with a different parent company) and it is not cruelty-free. Marc Jacobs Beauty is sold only at Sephora.
Hi I’d like to know if the professional color line they use at ulta is cruelty free? Do they use Redken which is not cruelty free
From my understanding, the line they use is not cruelty-free.
Note cosmetics are still cruelty free and vegan?do they have a parent company that test on animals?
They are cruelty-free and vegan and do not have a parent company that tests on animals.
