Cruelty-Free Brands at Target
This list of cruelty-free brands at Target will help make shopping easier for you!
One of the most common requests that I receive is asking for a list of cruelty-free brands that are available at major chains like Target. With so many locations, Target is a chain that is easily accessible to a lot of people. You can order from them online and have it shipped to your home, or brought to you through a delivery service. Target also carries cruelty-free brands at a variety of price points too. Because they carry such a huge variety of products, this cruelty-free list is also able to extend beyond the beauty section of the store. It covers makeup, skincare, haircare, and even household products too.
This list of cruelty-free brands at Target can help consumers make better choices when shopping here. Because Target carries such a large variety of items, this list extends beyond beauty products. It also includes cruelty-free brands that sell household items, such as cruelty-free cleaning supplies.

All of the brands listed here are the cruelty-free brands at Target. They are free of animal testing and they all also have vegan options. Just as with the Cruelty-Free Brand List, it is noted next to a brand if they are cruelty-free but are owned by a company that tests on animals. It is also noted if they are not just cruelty-free, but are also a 100% vegan brand.
Cruelty-Free Brands at Target:
To make this list easier to shop, and as requested by readers, I have split it up into categories by product type. Some brands may appear in multiple categories. For example, many brands that make skincare also make hair products too. Hopefully this helps make your cruelty-free shopping at Target easier!

Cruelty-Free Cleaning Products at Target:
The following brands make household products, such as cleaners, essential oils, hand sanitizer, and multi-use soaps.
- Aunt Fannie’s
- Aura Cacia
- Dr. Bronner’s
- ECOS
- Everyone
- J.R. Watkins
- Mrs. Meyers – It should be noted that they are cruelty-free, but their parent company is not.

Unfortunately, Target also carries a lot of brands that are not cruelty-free. Some of these brands even claim to be cruelty-free on product pages on the Target website. Some examples of this are L’Oreal, Aveeno, Aussie, Batiste, Herbal Essences, Maui Moisture, OGX, Simple, Sally Hansen, Wet n Wild, Physicians Formula, and Love Beauty and Planet. Sadly, Target’s own house line Up & Up is not cruelty-free either.

Is Paul Mitchell still animal friendly? I didn’t see the bunny but that doesn’t always mean much.
They are! 🙂
I looked into this awhile ago and long story short, they’ve always been cruelty free. 🙂
I’m currently transitioning all my household goods to cruelty free. The problem I’m having is finding a face wash and face lotion I love. Every other product I’ve changed I like, but can’t seem to find a good one for my face without spending a fortune trying things out, may I ask what face wash and face lotion you use? Thanks!
Hi Chris,
I would suggest checking out Pacifica! They have a lot of great options (and will be coming out with more very soon)!
Alba Botanica Acne Dotal face scrub is amazing and keeps me breakout free! Coconut oil also makes for an amazing makeup remover and moosturizer. It soaks in without any oily residue and I have not had many breakouts since! I like to add a couple drops of grapefruit essential oil for a little boost
Try acure you can buy at Target $10.00
I thought Carol’s Daughter was cruelty free. What can you tell us about them?
Hi Wendy,
I’ve reached out to them but haven’t heard back yet. Check the weekly updates to see where they end up. 🙂
Hey! Some Target stores sell Nourish Organic products, which is great! They also sell it through their online store
That’s awesome to hear! I just added them to list this. 🙂
Thank you so much for doing all this research and creating a detailed list of trustworthy and untrustworthy companies. Just to clarify, do you consider companies that use honey or beeswax not vegan? Thanks!
Hi KMC,
I do not consider any animal ingredients to be vegan. 🙂
Such an amazing list! thank you so much for helping clueless people like myself who recently have gone cruelty-free and are also on a budget
I’m so glad that you find this list helpful! 🙂
When I was browsing recently I realized that some of the Sonia Kashuk brushes are not cruelty free (aka are “natural hair”). Just wanted to make others aware as I almost bought a lip brush thinking it was synthetic when it was not. Thanks so much for all of your hard work; it is very appreciated & my #1 resource!
P.S. Another great brand that was just picked up in some target stores in Spring 2014 is Oyin Handmade. It’s a family-run hair/skin line that is cruelty free w/ some vegan options (as other products contain honey). They are a recent discovery of mine when researching healthier deodorant options & not yet @ my local target – I ordered from their website – but wanted to let you know about them as I’ve been very pleased w/ their products, service, etc. if you’d like to check them out their site is http://www.oyinhandmade.com
Hi Melissa,
Thanks for letting me know about Oyin Handmade! I just reached out to them. And that is a great point about the Sonia Kashuk brushes. I hope that one day all of their brushes will be synthetic.
They recently started selling Acure which I love! They have Alba also.
It seems like everyones Target carries better brands than mine! I’m jealous! I’ll add these to the list.
ECO tools makeup brushes are all synthetic and cruelty free! They are amazing and I won’t purchase any other brand 🙂 majority of their packaging is recycled AND recyclable too!
So is it official that Method is no longer cruelty free/vegan? I keep hearing conflicting stories.
In my opinion, they are no longer cruelty-free. You can read more about that in this post.
I thought the Boots line was cruelty free too. At least I hope!
Hi Megan,
Boots is currently on the Pending Brands section of the Cruelty Free & Vegan Brand List. This means that we have reached out, but have not yet heard back from them. Hopefully we do soon!
I LOVE Mineral Fusion mascara!!! 😉
