Is Urban Decay Cruelty-Free? Yes! Urban Decay is cruelty-free!

Urban Decay is cruelty-free. They do not test on animals at any point, nor do they hire any 3rd parties to test on animals on their behalf.

They are owned by L’Oreal. L’Oreal is not cruelty-free. I think everyone should decide for themselves how they feel about parent companies who test on animals. Supporting any cruelty-free brand is better than purchasing products from a brand that tests on animals.

Are all Urban Decay Products vegan? No.

  1. I am confused. Years ago I started buying Shame (cream), and then it was noted as vegan on their website. This was pre-Vice-era, they were still called Revolution Lipsticks. I have repurchased this shade several times and it is my favorite lipstick of all time. I see it is not on your list – and it is not noted as vegan on their website. But I’ve now checked the ingredients several times and there is nothing I can find in them that isn’t vegan. I do also use their Eyebrow Tamer, which is also not noted as vegan on their website, but it also doesn’t contain anything animal-derived that I can discern. I have the habit of reading ingredient lists on packaging before I buy instead of checking for lists, because so many companies don’t give them anyway. Is Urban Decay just sloppy with this or am I reading wrong?

    1. Hi Melody! Both products contain some ingredients that could be from animals or from plants/synthetic. It’s possible that Urban Decay is sourcing these from animals or just not consistently from plants or a synthetic source.

  2. Do you happen to know if the new Hex Remedy 24/7 Travel Eye Pencil set is vegan? I know they’re reformulating a lot of their 24/7 liners, but can’t find any info on the holiday release… 🙂

  3. Thank you so much for this it is so helpful! I was reading the ingredients for the Naked basics, ultimate basics, and Naked2 basics palettes and the list says may contain carmine, I asked one of the customer service representatives and they said it was because they are manufactured on the same equipment as shadows that have carmine. So, would these be vegan shadows? Or are there other things in these shadows that would not make them vegan? Thank you!

  4. Hi,
What’s with the “travel size” listings? (e.g. with the setting sprays) Isn’t the full size product the exact same in larger quantity?
    *feeling confused*

    Cath.

  5. Great list!
Why is the Original eyeshadow primer not vegan? I remember that I googled this a few months back before I bought it, I don’t think it was your website though. It’s getting empty so I am buying a new eyeshadow primer soon but wanted to update my facts before doing anything. According to UD website, the Original one contains Synthetic Beeswax. Is this why it is not included in your list? Because the Anti-Aging one contains the same ingredient. Looking forward to your reply 🙂

    1. Hi!

The original formula isn’t listed because Urban Decay says that it’s not vegan. I know that it was vegan years ago but they reformulated and it was no longer vegan afterward. I’m not sure which ingredient makes it not vegan, but that would be a great question for their team.

  6. Thank you for this list! I just want to double check but are none of the other lipstick or liquid lipsticks vegan-friendly? I was really surprised that I did not find many lip options for this brand when they have an amazing selection… sigh…

  7. Hello

Just wanted to know how recent this vegan list is. As I’ve looked on the uk French and USA website and all say different things as to what is and isn’t vegan. I’ve emailed the company to ask. Many thanks zombina

    1. Stila is still researching what products of theirs may be vegan, but I have lots of these guides published already for other brands. If you search “vegan products” in the search box they should come up. 🙂
