Vegan Brands at Ulta (Updated for 2021!)

Vegan Brands at Ulta

This list of vegan brands at Ulta will help make shopping easier for you!

Finding cruelty-free brands at Ulta is pretty simple. Buying from completely cruelty-free and vegan brands at Ulta it can be another story. For many consumers, big stores like Ulta are one of the main places where they purchase cosmetics, skincare, and hair care. Being aware of the cruelty-free brands at Ulta is easy, but finding completely vegan brands can be another challenge.

Ulta carries so many brands and you can use the Logical Harmony guide to cruelty-free brands at Ulta to find out which are cruelty-free and which are not. While lots of brands there have vegan options, there are a handful that happen to be completely vegan as well. This means there is no animal testing and no animal ingredients used in any products from these brands.

All of the brands listed in this shopping guide are cruelty-free and are also sold at Ulta. They are free of animal testing and all of the products made by these brands are also free of any animal or animal-derived ingredients. Just as with the Cruelty-Free Brand List, it is noted next to a brand if they are owned by a company that tests on animals.

Can you trust Ulta’s vegan filter? Unfortunately not.

I know that some people use the Ulta keyword searches for cruelty-free or vegan, but it’s not a very reliable system. Brands that test on animals are listed as cruelty-free and some products that contain animal ingredients are listed as vegan. If you’re curious about vegan options from a cruelty-free brand, there are lots of vegan product lists here on Logical Harmony.

Ulta now has a vegan brands page, but this lists brands that simply have vegan options. A lot of the brands listed are not fully vegan, and some are not cruelty-free. It’s important to note that vegan and cruelty-free don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand but this page is very confusing for the average consumer.

For example, Bare Republic, Briogeo, Hempz, and Nabla are all listed on this page. These brands are cruelty-free brands but they are not fully vegan brands. The text on it leads one to believe that the brands listed are all cruelty-free and that they only make vegan products. I hope this is something that Ulta corrects as it’s very confusing and misleading.

If you’re on some Ulta pages, there’s also a check-box filter to sort by cruelty-free or vegan. Unfortunately, not all of the brands that appear under cruelty-free are actually cruelty-free and not all of the products that appear under vegan are actually vegan either.

While it’s great to see Ulta taking these factors into consideration, it’s unclear how they are defined. I worry that it will make people feel that going cruelty-free or choosing vegan products is a lot more difficult than it actually is. While I commend Ulta for the effort, I do hope these filters become accurate in the future.
