Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer Review

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer Review

I had my eye on the Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer for some time. I have only ever used one lipstick primer before and had high hopes for the Too Faced lip primer. The Too Faced Lip Insurance comes in the most adorable packing with a doe-foot applicator, and I’ve had very good luck with most other Too Faced products that I have tried. While I love the look of liquid and long-lasting lipsticks, they don’t always feel the best on my lips. I was hoping that this primer could help extend the wear of some other lipstick formulas.

Claims: “Prep your pout with a hydrating, quick-drying formula that pampers while it primes. Locks down lip color, ensuring it won’t feather, fade or transfer, even through the most challenging, late-night  make out  sessions.

Ingredients: Isododecane, Silica, Talc, Ethylenediamine/Stearyl Dimer Dilinoleate Copolymer, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Isobutyl Methacrylate/ Trifluoroethylmethacrylate/Bis-Hydroxypropyl Dimethicone Acrylate Copolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Jojoba Esters, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Trihydroxystearin, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Triethylhexanoin, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Tribehenin, Propylene Carbonate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sorbitan Isostearate, o-Cymen-5-oL, Ceramide 2, PEG-10 Rapeseed Sterol, Portulaca Pilosa Extract, Sucrose Cocoate, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Mica.

Pros:  Applies smoothly and creates an even base for applying lipstick. Cruelty free brand. Vegan product.

Cons: Results varied depending on the type of lipstick being used.

The Verdict: I have mixed feelings about the Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer. It worked amazingly with some lipsticks and not at all with others. The product itself is really easy to apply and felt very nice and lightweight on my lips. With some lipsticks, it really did help them wear longer and prevented fading. With others, it seemed to actually make them wear off quicker. I found that it worked best with very moisturizing lipsticks, such as the La Creme lipsticks from Too Faced. With lipstick formulas that tend to be a bit drying, I had less than great results.

I am still intrigued by this product and am going to continue to try it with other lipsticks to see if I can find good combinations. In the meantime, I plan to use it with my rather large La Creme collection.

  1. I got this a few weeks back too and I agree with you about the mixed results. I’ve only recently started experimenting with primers so after I was impressed by the primed and poreless I tried this one too.
Have to say that the formula actually gives me a strange sticky feeling at times and it makes my lips extra dry if I use it with matte lipsticks (that are already drying to begin with).
But it’s true that with more creamy lipsticks it works well. Not sure if I would buy this specific one again…
