Skincare as Self-Care with For The Biome

Skincare as Selfcare with For The Biome

Right now, I think we could all use a little extra self-care. Times are extra stressful and a lot of us, myself included, are feeling a lot of extra anxious energy. While I am grateful to be in the position to be able to work while sheltering in place at home, I also know that I am very privileged to be able to do so. During this time of sheltering in place, I’ve been trying to find ways to add extra self-care into my routine. My guess is that a lot of you are in that same boat.

One thing I’ve been doing is focusing on skincare as self-care. This doesn’t just mean sticking to my skincare routine. It also means taking a little extra time with my skincare routine every morning and evening. I’m also taking days to be makeup-free, some intentional and some not, to let my skin heal. Some days, I focus on doing skincare steps throughout the day. This can mean adding in some extra essence spray breaks throughout the day or reapplying serum. I want to help my skin rebuild its moisture barrier and I want to nourish it with the products I am using.

Thank you so much to For The Biome for sponsoring this blog post! For The Biome is a cruelty-free skincare brand with vegan options. They have a mind-body approach to skincare and believe that a balance between the two is key for healthy skin. For The Biome even offers we offer live and guided meditations with Co-Founder and meditation teacher, Barbi Schulick, to uplift mental wellbeing.

For the Biome sent me some of their vegan-friendly skincare and skincare tools to try out. I am so excited to work with a cruelty-free brand to share my thoughts on their vegan skincare products, and how I have incorporated them into my self-care routine. Their skin health line includes vegan, cruelty-free, certified organic & non-GMO, MADE SAFE®, and EWG Verified™ products.

For The Biome sent me their Vegan Sentient Starter Set. This set contains three products – the Empower Powder 2-in-1, Adapt Essence Spray, and Shield Face Serum. You can use code HARMONY10 for 10% off.

In my 7 Day of Self-Care series on YouTube, I talked about how face masks can be an easy way to add in something small to your routine that really makes a difference. Taking time while washing my face and going through my other skincare steps can be a great time to add some balance to my day.

I’ll do a face steam first.  I’ll light a candle or some incense. I will take some time to focus on my breathing while applying each product. It’s nice to just really turn each skincare step into a longer process. Putting a little more intention into each step has been really soothing and calming. At first, I had a couple of new blemishes pop-up. I truly think that this was my body pushing things out through my skin. Each day my skin got smoother, calmer, softer, and more clear.

The Tool Kit is incredibly useful. It contains a Gentle Dual Cleansing Cloth, Organic Bamboo Spoon, and Handcrafted Mixing Bowl. The cloth has one side that’s great to use to gently remove makeup. The other side I like to use to wash off the cleanser and find it to be very gentle on my skin too. I love the reminder on the bamboo spoon to make your skincare routine a ritual. It’s such a calming mantra to read while mixing up the cleanser in the mixing bowl.

The Empower Powder 2-in-1 is such a great dual product. It can be used as a cleanser or as a mask. This powder cleanser contains 10 botanicals, 6 probiotic strains, reishi mushroom, and aloe vera. Aloe Vera is soothing for skin, and can be hydrating as well. It also contains saffron and tumeric which give it a gorgeous color and scent.

This powder is best for dry or dehydrated skin, and I have found it to be really balancing. I mix it with water when I’m using it as a cleanser. I love mixing it with the Sheild Face Serum when using it as a mask to add some extra skin benefits. It’s gentle but effective. My skin feels clean and balanced after use, and I love that it gives me a very gentle exfoliation also.

The Adapt Essence Spray is the perfect second step after cleansing. It’s also such a nice spray to refresh skin throughout the day. This essence spray contains a combination of several kinds of organic mushrooms like reishi, lion’s mane, chaga, shitake, king trumpet, and maitake. It’s also fermented and leverages those probiotics to tone and hydrate.

The spray is super fine and gentle. It feels so lovely on the skin. I love using the time between spraying and letting it absorb into my skin to enjoy the quiet and take a few deep breaths. This essence works with all skin types. Some might find it hydrating enough to skip a moisturizer or serum, but my skin needs all the moisture and protection that it can get so I layer them.

The Shield Face Serum is the final step in this skincare combo. It’s a combination of a serum and a moisturizer. It’s the first serum to contain the adaptogenic and protective properties of CO2 extracted, organic astaxanthin. This is a microalgae-derived nutrient that delivers Vitamin C and other forms of free-radical defense to skin.

Containing ingredients like rosehip seed oil to restore, sea buckthorn extract to moisturize, raspberry seed extract to plump, chamomile flower extract to soothe, and marigold flower extract to repair. I press it into my skin gently and really take my time with the application. This serum works with all skin types, and as someone with dry skin I found it very nourishing and calming.

For The Biome sent me the Vegan Sentient Starter Set. This set contains three products – the Empower Powder 2-in-1, Adapt Essence Spray, and Shield Face Serum. I use them all in the video below. You can use code HARMONY10 for 10% off.

You can also order the For The Biome Discovery Kit, which comes with a sample size of all of their products. It has 3 powders, 2 essence sprays, and 2 serums. The Discovery Kit does contain some non-vegan products, so I would suggest the Vegan Sentient Starter Set personally.
