Schmidt’s Deodorant Review – Cedarwood and Juniper

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant Review - Cedarwood and Juniper

Natural deodorants can be found everywhere. But a natural deodorant that actually works? That’s a whole different story. I’m always on the look out to find an effective  deodorant and have had a very hard time doing so. Time after time, I head back to aluminum and chemical filled versions. When Schmidt’s offered to send me a deodorant to review, I was eager to try it out. Given my history with natural deodorants, I wasn’t sure it would be for me. At the same time, I have friends who swear by Schmidt’s as the only natural deodorant that works for them. I had to give it a try!

Claims: “Our formula effectively neutralizes underarm odor and absorbs wetness without the use of aluminum or other harmful chemicals.

Ingredients: Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Cedrus deodara (Himalayan cedar) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Juniperus (juniper) essential oil, Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Pros: Cruelty free brand. Vegan formula. Propylene glycol-free. Paraben-free. Phthalate-free. Sleek recylable and re-useable packaging. Comes in a variety of scents that are subtle and not overpowering.

Cons: You need to apply the product with your fingers, which may not be for everyone.

The Verdict: Schmidt’s works!! It works better than about 99% of other natural deodorants that I have tried. Coming from me, this is saying a lot. I liked that the scent was natural, not too strong, and stayed smelling pleasant. The formula was smooth and creamy. To be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of applying it with my fingers and would rather a traditional tube. I applied the deodorant in the morning as I usually would. By the end of the day, I felt like it still had some staying power. As with most natural deodorants, I would suggest re-applying throughout the day if you’re an active person. What impressed me the most is that it did keep me dryer than other natural deodorants that I have tried. Overall, I really liked Schmidt’s Deodorant. I’ve continued to use it and have suggested it to friends. I would love to try more scents once this jar runs out.

The jars of deodorant are available to purchase online. Choose from Cedarwood & Juniper, Ylang-Ylang & Calendula, Bergamont & Lime, Lavender & Sage, Fragrance-Free, or order the deluxe sampler to try them all.

  1. Oh one more thing Tashina, when I first signed up for this site I used my middle name Anne, I just feel more like an Anne versus Patricia LOL! But then I clicked on WordPress.com and somehow signed up there and it added my username as patgoodwin1. So both of them are me, sometimes the Anne Goodwin pops up and other times Pat Goodwin, both obviously me. I don’t know how I get myself so tangled haha! Just an FYI, silly computer challenged me.

  2. I’m using Soapwalla right now, for about a week. At first when I apply it smells nice but it after a couple of hours it smells sour. Could very well be my chemistry, actually woke up this morning smelling like a vegetable factory LOL! Sorry I thought it was funny! The Crystal deodorant wasn’t too bad. So now I’ll try Lavanilla, it’s all about trying new products, I won’t give up on the search for one that works with my body. Oh yah and Schmidt’s too, I’ll for sure try that one.

  3. I’m using Crystal deodorant and it’s really good. So excited to see so many options in the comments. Going to try Schmidt’s, Soapwalla & Lavanilla. A gal’s gotta have options right?! LOL. I’m loving this site.

  4. I’m a regular user (and fan!) of Schmidt’s. At first, it was weird to apply with my fingers, but now I’ve come to enjoy giving myself a brief underarm lymph massage in the morning while applying it. I scoop it out with the back of my fingernail, and the warmth of my skin melts it in.

  5. i tried the Schmidt’s unscented but the consistency was so hard that i couldn’t get it to apply. the other deodorant cream i’ve tried is from Meow Meow Tweet and while it was pretty effective, i just can’t get over applying with my fingers.

i’m currently trying the almond vanilla from Nourish Organics. it seems to be good.

    1. Hi Jessica,

With the Schmidt’s deodorant, since it’s shea butter based, letting it sit on my finger tips to warm up first really helped. If you still have your Schmidt’s, I would give this a try and see if it helps!

  6. Have you tried Soapwalla’s deodorant cream? Like Schmidt’s, it needs to be applied with fingers, but that doesn’t bother me too much. It is the most effective natural and vegan deodorant I’ve tried. It has a mild herbal scent (they use lavender, tea tree, and peppermint essential oils) and works so well. I had the flu last fall and went a few days without showering, and the deodorant kept me smelling fresh. I know I sound like an ad, but I swear I’m just a happy customer. soapwallakitchen.com.
