Laura Mercier is Now Owned by Shiseido
The cruelty-free status of Laura Mercier is debated in the cruelty-free community. While I do not consider them to be a cruelty-free brand, I know that a lot of people do. For this reason, I wanted to share the news that this week it was announced that Shiseido is set to acquire Laura Mercier.
For those who do consider Laura Mercier to be cruelty-free but wish to avoid brands with a parent company who tests on animals, this will impact you because Shiseido is not cruelty-free.

It’s unclear if being purchased by Shiseido will have any impact on the animal testing stance of Laura Mercier. Shiseido owns several cruelty-free brands like NARS and bareMinerals.

ahhh, this really sucks. i was looking forward to purchasing some laura mercier products in the future, but now i definitely won’t be. very disappointing.
why don`t you consider laura mercier cruelty free?
They state that they do test when required by law and that only the finished products aren’t tested on animals.
I recently went into a Bare Minerals store. They told me that Bare Minerals partnered with Shiseido on their new skin care line. What does this mean for Bare Minerals? Thank you.

Hm, wasn’t Laura Mercier owned by Estee Lauder before? 😮 I’m thinking that now they might become cruelty-free (according to my own standards), because all EL companies animal test “where required by law” while not all Shiseido subsidaries does, and LM atleast doesn’t sell in China!
