Is TRESemmé cruelty-free? Yes! TRESemmé is now cruelty-free!

I am very excited to announce that TRESemmé is cruelty-free! TRESemmé now meets all the criteria to be a Logical Harmony Approved cruelty-free brand. There is no animal testing occurring anywhere on their products. They are not selling in any markets that require animal testing, and they do not sell in retail stores in China.

TRESemmé is also now certified as cruelty-free through PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program. While I do not agree that all brands in this program are cruelty-free, it’s always encouraging to see brands take these steps.

Are TRESemmé products sold in China? Yes, but not in way that requires animal testing.

TRESemmé products are not sold in stores in mainland China, which is where required by law animal testing becomes an issue. They are only sold via e-commerce. This allows the brand to avoid any potential animal testing requirements.

Consumers in China can only purchase TRESemmé products via cross-boarder e-commerce which does not require animal testing by local authorities. TRESemmé has a policy of prohibiting any animal test, anywhere in the world: no projects are approved internally if they were to results in a requirement for animal testing of TRESemmé products by the Chinese authorities.

Does TRESemmé test on animals when required by law? No.

No. TRESemmé does not test on animals when required by law.  Nor do they pay for any required by law animal testing to occur on their products. TRESemmé does not sell in any markets that require animal testing. In the past TRESemmé stated that they did test on animals when required by law and thankfully this is no longer the case.

Who owns TRESemmé?

TRESemmé is owned by Unilever. Unilever themselves are not cruelty-free.

Most brands owned by Unilever are not cruelty-free (such as Dove, Axe, Noxzema, and Pond’s). There are a lot of different opinions on supporting cruelty-free brands owned by a parent company that is not cruelty-free. No matter where you stand, I think it’s important to let the brand know why, or why not, this impacts your decision to purchase their products.

Is TRESemmé Vegan? No.

TRESemmé is not a vegan brand. I did inquire about vegan-friendly options and it sounds like every product contains some sort of animal or animal derived ingredient. Hopefully this changes one day. It would be amazing to see vegan-friendly products from such an easily accessible brand.

Where is TRESemmé sold?

TRESemmé products are currently available on their own website, Walmart, Target, Ulta, CVS, and in drugstores and grocery stores all over. That’s part of what makes this announcement so exciting. TRESemmé is such an easy to find brand!

Here on Logical Harmony, you can find a full list of cruelty-free brands as well as shopping guides to help you find the cruelty-free brands at Dermstore, Ulta, Nordstrom, Sephora, Beauty Bay, Beautylish, Cult Beauty, and tons more. There are also lots of vegan product lists for cruelty-free brands too.
