What you will need to make The Perfect Moscow Mule:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 6-8 ounces high-quality ginger beer
  • 1/2 a lime, juiced
  • ice
  • Lime slices and fresh mint to garnish

There are several stories about how Moscow Mules first came about. Some seem a bit more romanticized than others, but the bottom line of all the stories is that the drink was created as a collaboration of struggling businessmen trying to make their mark on US culture while making their businesses successful.

According to Nov & Somm,

John G. Martin had bought the rights to Smirnoff. This was considered a very risky business move because, at the time, vodka was not popular in the United States. Jack Morgan, the owner of the Cock ‘N’ Bull bar in Hollywood had recently acquired a large quantity of ginger beer, but it wasn’t moving at his bar and was taking up valuable shelf space. At the end of the bar sat another businessman who had a huge supply of copper mugs, but couldn’t find anyone interested in purchasing. The three of them put their heads together and in collaboration with Wes Price who was tending the bar at the time, they came up with the Moscow Mule – a cocktail that would serve as the solution to all of their problems.

How to Make the Perfect Spicy Moscow Mule with Nov and Somm

What you will need to make The Perfect Spicy Moscow Mule:

  • 1/2 a lime, juiced
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1/4-1/2 a fresh jalapeno, sliced
  • 6-8 ounces high-quality ginger beer
  • ice
  • Fresh jalapeno slices, lime slices, and mint to garnish

Moscow Mules are traditionally served in copper mugs. The reasoning behind this being that the mugs help to cool all the ingredients quickly and keep them cold so that you can enjoy your refreshing cocktail. This also means that your Moscow Mule will simply taste better out of a copper Moscow Mule mug. Knowing this, the team behind Nov & Somm searched the globe to create the best, and most traditional, Moscow Mule mugs out there.
