5 Ways to Help You Stick To Your Goals

When I first set my resolutions for this year, I wanted to keep things simple and realistic. So many people set crazy and unattainable resolutions and then wonder why they stop doing them two weeks into January. Not only did I not want that to happen but, more importantly, I wanted to choose goals that I was truly committed to. I told myself, “This is what you need to do for yourself to grow and develop as a person. These small steps will help you get to the next level. They are worth all the effort and energy.” Once I made that decision, I not only started with these goals but I have kept up with them on a daily basis.

I’ve been reading May Cause Miracles by Gabrielle Bernstein everyday and doing my daily assignments. I will be starting A Course In Miracles soon. I’ve been working out using the Tone It Up program seven days a week. I’ve been responding to more emails, drafting more blog posts, and working towards behind the scenes goals here at Logical Harmony.

Often times, people ask me how I stay motivated and inspired. I wanted to share my tips here in case anyone needs some motivation.

1. Make yourself accountable. For me, that meant making my goal as public as I could and checking in on social media (specifically Instagram) to show my updates. This has worked great for my Tone It Up check-ins because people are constantly cheering me on, and they also notice when I don’t post. I know that each day I need to post my fitness check-in and, you know what? Each day I do it!

2. Buddy up! A goal buddy is someone you know that has the same, or similar, end goal. You can check in with one another on a daily or weekly basis. One of my buddies is Kristiina from Typical Housecat. We met via Instagram and both wanted to work on May Cause Miracles, A Course in Miracles, and Tone It Up in 2014. It’s a friendship that was just meant to be! Having someone whose goals are in tune with yours will keep you motivated, and you have someone to talk to when you struggle.

3. Create to do lists. If I have something written down, I know I need to do it. So each day I make a list of what I need to do that day to help me achieve my goals. Usually it looks something like: Morning workout, PM workout, May Cause Miracles in AM, May Cause Miracles in PM, respond to five emails, draft one blog post. I cross things off as I complete them. Knowing that I’m making progress feels really good! When I’m lacking motivation, I can look back on previous days and see how many days in a row I’ve completed these tasks. Why stop now? Keep going!

4. Reward yourself for the small steps along the way. It’s important to celebrate small successes. With my fitness goals, I noticed changes in my body. Fitness routines that I used to struggle with were fun and I could do them multiple times. To celebrate this small success, I bought myself a foam roller. Even little things like a bubble bath, manicure, or a new book can keep you going along the way.

5. Trust that you can achieve your goals. At the end of the day, the only person who can help you achieve is you. Trust completely in yourself and know that you can do it if you really want to. Sure, there may be hard times and there may be hurdles you need to overcome. But those hurdles just make you stronger and help you push towards your end goal.

    Great post! I find it’s important to set 1 – 2 goals because then you are more likely to accomplish them. If you set several goals then you’ll be lucky to complete 1. I also use Social Media to keep me in check with my Insanity Workouts. I created a group on FB where we can motivate each other. It works! 😉
